Nagpur: Eggs and chicken are a great source of protein and their consumption boosts the immune system of the citizens. This is essential especially during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic period. Minister for Animal Husbandry, Daily Development and sports and youth welfare, Sunil Kedar appealed to the people to consume eggs and chicken without any hesitation and stay fit and healthy.

He was speaking on the occasion of ‘Chicken Festival’ jointly organized by Vidarbha Poultry Farmers Association and University of Animal and Fisheries Sciences. On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashish Paturkar, Dr V. D. Aher, Executive Council Member Dr. Sudhir Duddalwar, chairman of Vidarbha Poultry Farm Association Raja Dudhbade and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

While the Department of Animal Husbandry is trying its level best to control bird flu, rumours are being increasingly spread on social media. They are far deadlier than this infection. The cyber crime branch has recently registered a case against two persons for spreading rumors and arrested them from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh states. Poultry farming is a rural area based occupation, so these sort of rumours are hitting the rural economy hardest. Now in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic induced lockdown, businesses are recently starting to recover. Eggs and chicken are cooked at 100 degrees celcius and are therefore absolutely safe to eat, explained Kedar.

Maharashtra is the largest exporter of poultry products in the country. Therefore, the poultry industry has a large contribution in the rural economy of the state. Since 2006, there has been a radical change in the management of poultry farming in the country. The mortality rate of birds is low nowadays in poultry farms due to the implementation of higher standards of safety, hygiene, disinfection and waste disposal. Farmers, poultry products businessmen and ministry officials are ensuring that the outbreak of such diseases does not occur on a large scale in poultry farms, Kedar highlighted.
