Nagpur win twin golds at State selection meet
NAGPUR athletes continued to hog limelight on the third day of the Maharashtra State Junior Selection Trials Cum Competition under way at Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune. After missing the gold on the opening day, city athletes won back to back golds on second and third day of the competition. In the Under-16 girls’ long distance running, Bhavyashree Mahalle won gold medal in 2000 metres. The JP English School, Ramna Maroti student clocked a timing of six minutes and 44 seconds to clinch the yellow metal. Gayatri Patil of Kolhapur (6:45.90) and Sakshi Bhandari of Ahmadnagar (6:46.80) finished second and third respectively.
In the U-16 boys category, Sandip Gound of Om Sai Sporting Club won gold medal in 80 metres hurdles with a timing of 10:92s. Nasik’s Dhairyasheel Patil (10.98) and Aurangabad’s Balraj Pardeshi (11.32) finished second and third. In Under-14 girls’ 60 metres run, Modern School’s Sanvi Pathak won bronze medal as she crossed the line 8.20 secs. Pune’s Rutuja Bhosle (8.78s) won gold and Ahmadnagar’s Divyanshi Lande (7.99s) won silver. In the same age category, city’s Akanksha Soudiya won bronze medal in 600 metres run.
She finished the race in 1 minute and 42 seconds. Bhavyashree and Akansha are coached by Jitendra Ghordadekar while Sanvi Pathak does personal training. Sandip is coached by Praful Bele. President of Nagpur District Athletics Association Gurudev Nagrale, Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Nagesh Sahare, Dr Sanjay Chaudhary, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Dr Aditya Soni, Ramchandra Wani, Prof Bantiprasad Yadav, Umesh Naidu, SJ Anthony, Archana Kottewar and others congratulated the medal winners.
