VTA held discussion with MahaMetro on Kingsway & Railway Station Flyover
A delegation of Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) led by its vice president Hemant Trivedi met Dr. Brijesh Dixit – Managing Director, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) to take update on ongoing proposed Kingsway Flyover and pending situation of Flyover in front of Nagpur Railway Station. Also present in the meeting were Mahesh Kumar – Director Projects MahaMetro.
VTA VP Hemant Trivedi appreciated the successful completion of double-decker road and metro flyover over Wardha Road section, which has become a pride infrastructure not only for the city, but for the entire nation. He also valued the pace of work-in-progress despite this pandemic.
Tejinder Singh Renu, secretary of VTA requested MahaMetro to share the details of the ongoing Kingsway Flyover as well as pending demolition of flyover opposite Nagpur Railway Station, which is actually a commercial complex and not a flyover, because it doesn’t fly over anything. The roof of the shops constructed below is used for traffic and this flyover has now become functional obsolescence, which may please be demolished after relocating the ship-owners.
Dr. Brijesh Dixit and Mahesh Kumar shared the details of the ongoing flyover which will be an extended part of existing Ram Jhula Bridge coming from Central Avenue and landing near RBI Square and other leg near Convent School, bypassing the Jai Stambh square. They further assured that with the current pace of speed, most likely this portion will be ready for use in 2021.
MahaMetro further informed that the demolition of Railway Station Flyover is pending as the shop owners are still to be relocated. Moreover out of around 160 shops only 60-70 shops are occupied and rest permanently closed and not in use. The relocation job is with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and as they’ll handover vacant possession of this flyover, we’ll demolish and then city will have 6-lane road in its place, which will beautify the entire portion by heaps and bounds along with better road & traffic usage.
VTA appreciated the efforts of MahaMetro and assured that VTA will also analyze the ongoing & proposed projects and if any suggestion in public interest is required, it will be submitted in writing soon. Also present in the meeting was VTA joint secretary Rajesh Kanungo
