City athlete Shadab Pathan reigns supreme in State-level 3.2-km run at Washim
Young city athlete Shadab Pathan achieved the first place in the state-level run, jointly organised by the Washim District Marathon Committee and Shyam Sawant Academy, held at Washim on Thursday.
A member of the local Track Star Athletic Club, Pathan clocked nine minutes and nine seconds to complete a distance of 3.2 kilometres. Shadab was leading from the word and as the race progressed he established a big lead to clinch the first spot.
This is the maiden major achievement of Shadab in the senior’s category as far as state-level meet is concerned. He received a cash prize of Rs 6,000. However, his club colleague Rajan Yadav finished fifth and got Rs 1,000. Shadab has been training under the guidance of senior coach Ravindra Tong at the Reshimbagh ground.
Director of Department of Sports and Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University Dr Sharad Suryavanshi, corporators Nagesh Sahare, Pramod Tabhane along with Gurudeo Nagrale, Umesh Naidu, Shekhar Suryavanshi, Dr Vivekanand Singh, Ramchandra Wani, Prof Buntyprasad Yadav, Archana Kottewar, Nilesh Hatwar and Gourav Singh Chouhan have congratulated both the athletes and wished them best luck for future events.
