Indian badminton doubles star Shlok Ramchandran will conduct a month-long camp in Nagpur in December.
The 25-year-old Shlok has tied up with the Ajay Dayal Badminton Academy and will hold his clinic here at the YMCA Hall, Civil Lines.
The ace shuttler will be the guest coach at the ADBA
and will guide selected bunch of talented city shuttlers for four weeks.
“Yes I am holding a camp in Nagpur from December first week. It will be limited to 10-12 players only. I will be the guest coach at ADBA,” said Shlok, who had reached career best world ranking of 32 in the men’s doubles when he was at his peak in mid-2018.
During his stay in Nagpur, the tall and lanky shuttler will be training India’s fast rising women’s doubles pair of Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi.
“My focus will be to get Ritika and Simran on track for the next season. The forthcoming season is very important for them. I will also be mentoring the upcoming kids of the Ajay Dayal Academy,” said Shlok, the Mumbai-based shuttler.
While Ritika trains at the ADBA, Simran is a member of Thane Academy.
Having played competitive badminton till a few months ago, it will be the first assignment as a coach for Shlok.
“It’s my way of giving something back to the sports which has given me everything. And what way to start than my home state of Maharashtra,” said Shlok, who trained nearly five years at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad.
At the tender age of 24, he took indefinite sabbatical from professional badminton.
Shlok, who was regular member of the Indian doubles squad, has won one and finished runners-up in three BWF International Challenge and International Series events between 2014 and 2019 while he has won five BWF Future Series from 2015 to 2019.
After competing in the fifth edition of the Premier Badminton League (PBL), Shlok announced that he is stepping away in order to “pursue other dreams and aspirations.”
Of all the nine results in the BWF International Challenge, Series and Future events, he has bagged seven with MR Arjun and two with Sanyam Shukla.
