Video: Congress stage protest against Centre’s farm laws in Nagpur
Nagpur: The Maharashtra Congress gheraoed Raj Bhavan in Nagpur on Saturday to demand withdrawal of the Centre’s new farm laws and protest against fuel price hikes. The action was followed by the tweet posted by Maharashtra Congress Chief, Balasaheb Thorat on Friday.
He said the party will observe the day as ‘Kisan Adhikar Divas’ across the state.
Congress workers in large groups were seen holding cylinder banners to protest against LPG gas rates. “Jumlebazi band karo, ab mehgai khatam karo,”, “Bhuka insaan, maje me shaitan,”, “Garibo ka apman, nahi sahega hindustan,” were the captions on the banners.
Today is the 52 day since the farmers have been sitting on Dharna outside the national capital demanding rollback of three “anti-farmer agriculture laws”.
Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the Centre as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove the middlemen and allow farmers to sell their produce anywhere in the country.
However, the protesting farmers have expressed the apprehension that the new laws would pave the way for eliminating the safety cushion of the MSP and do away with the “mandi” (wholesale market) system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporates.
