Nagpur: In his first spot visit after three cars were set on fire by anti-socials in Imambada between the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Commissioner of Police (CP), Amitesh Kumar has warned anti-social elements of stern action if they tried to disrupt peace and harmony in the society.

Two months after 17 vehicles were damaged by goons in the Narendra Nagar area, three cars were set on fire by anti-socials in Imambada. The incident had left the residents of Untakhana Layout terrified. Following the incident, CP Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sunil Phulari, DCP Zone 4, Akshay Shinde, and PI Immamwada Mukund Salunkhe had visited the spot. Acting swiftly on the incident, the squad of Unit 4 of Nagpur Crime Branch led by PI Ashok Meshram, API Kasodhan, API Sontakke and others swung into action and identified two culprits through CCTV footage. During the interrogation, the accused identified as Shambu Gangaprasad Mandal (24) and Vishal Purushottam Raut (19) confessed their role in the crime and informed the cops that they were high on marijuana while commiting the act of arson.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, CP Kumar has warned criminals of stern action on breaching the law and assured complete professional aid to Nagpurians.

On the night of the incident, cars of Amol Patil (38), Sankalp Sivcharan Wankhede (32) and Viveksindhu Taksande (40) were set on fire by the accused. Many cars were parked in front of the houses of residents. However, only three covered cars — Two Renault Triber and a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga — were targeted by the accused persons.

One Telbumde noticed the fire and informed his wife at around 1.30 am. The woman alerted the wife of Patil. Patil’s family immediately ran towards the vehicle and alerted neighbors. The residents themselves started pouring water on the burning cars. They managed to douse the flames after efforts of an hour.

It may be mentioned that three miscreants had ransacked 17 vehicles, including 14 four-wheelers, and set a car on fire in Borkute Layout in Narendra Nagar on October 30.
