VCA celebrates 125th birth anniversary of India’s first Test captain Col CK Nayudu

The Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of legendary cricketer and India’s first Test captain Col CK Nayudu at a simple function here on Saturday.

All the captains of VCA teams, men and women, garlanded the statue of Col. CK Nayudu which is situated in the premises of VCA Stadium, Civil Lines.

Adv Anand Jaiswal, president of VCA, while addressing the gathering said that, CK Nayudu was the first superstar of Indian cricket and such was his popularity that when Douglas Jardine of the Body Line fame, brought his MCC team to India in 1934, all teams that were to play against the MCC team requested participation of CK Nayudu in their teams so that the public could witness his batting skills.

CK Nayudu was well known for his power to hit huge sixes and was responsible for instilling pride in the Indian cricket team, said Jaiswal.

VCA has a very special connection with CK Nayudu as he played many matches at the Civil Lines Stadium, representing the ‘Hindu’ team in the quadrangular matches that were played in those days.

In the season 2019-20, the VCA U-23 team won the BCCI conducted Col CK Nayudu U-23 tournament.

Present during the function were honorary secretary of VCA Parimal Vaidya, CEO Farokh Dastoor and coaches and selectors of VCA.

The statue and its surrounding area have been beautified and lighted to give a very impressive look to the area.

MPCA also honours the first Test captain

Office bearers, managing committee members, members of MPCA, past and present cricketers and associates of MPCA assembled at the statue of Col CK Nayudu — located at the Nehru Stadium, Indore — this morning and fondly remembered the first Test captain of India.

The attendees celebrated the occasion by garlanding the statue of Col CK Nayudu, who was born on October 31, 1895 and commemorated this day in fond memories of this legendary cricketer.

It was a joyous moment and everybody took immense pride to be a part of this tradition followed religiously in Indore, the city that could closely witness the glory of this iconic cricketer who gave utmost pleasure to the millions of cricket lovers from India and abroad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad down Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets to keep playoffs hopes alive

Sunrisers Hyderabad swung back into contention with a crushing five-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Dream11 Indian Premier League at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The former champions rose to the occasion in the must-win game to keep their hopes alive for a playoffs berth.

The David Warner-led side now has jumped to the fourth spot in the points table with 12 points to their credit. If SRH manage to win their last outing they can clinch a berth in the top-4 as the competition to qualify is getting quite thrilling in the business end of the league.

On the other hand, RCB are slightly better placed at the second spot with 14 points to their credit. However, if they have to enter the playoffs, they too had to post victory as 14 points will not be enough to get them through, particularly when the other teams are closing in rapidly.

Put in to bat by Warner, RCB were restricted to a measly score of 120 for 7. Experienced medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma made early inroads in the RCB line-up. The 27-year-old from Punjab sent back Devdutt Padikkal (5) and Virat Kohli (7) in his second and third over, respectively to put the opposition on the backfoot straightway.

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan struck after the Powerplay as RCB failed to gather momentum in the crucial encounter. Opener Josh Philippe (32) and AB De Villiers (24) had decent starts but fell in quick succession in the middle overs as SRH continued to dazzle in the field.

Washington Sundar (21) and Gurkeerat Singh (15 not out) batted well in the end to give the total some respectability.

Sandeep Sharma, who was later adjudged man-of-the-match, returned with impressive figures of 2 for 20. Jason Holder (2 for 27) provided strong support. T Natarajan, Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem took a wicket each.

Chasing a modest target, SRH crossed the finish line in the 15th over with five wickets to spare. Last match hero, Wriddhiman Saha (39) continued his superb form and again anchored the chase for SRH before he necessarily stepped out and was stumped by de Villiers off Yuzvendra Chahal.

Although, a couple of wickets in the middle overs by Chahal (2 for 19) threatened to make things interesting, SRH did not panic and romped home with 35 balls to spare.

All-rounder Jason Holder proved his worth in the batting department too by slamming an unbeaten 26.

On Sunday in the last double header of the season, Kings XI Punjab (12 points) will square off against Chennai Super Kings (10) at Abu Dhabi, while Rajasthan Royals (12) will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (12) at Dubai.

Bries scores

Royal Challengers Bangalore 120 for 7 in 20 overs (Josh Philippe 32, AB de Villiers 24, Washington Sundar 21, Gurkeerat Singh 15 not out; Sandeep Sharma 2-20, Jason Holder 2-27, T Natarajan 1-11, Rashid Khan 1-24, Shahbaz Nadeem 1-35) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad 121 for 5 in 14.1 overs (Wriddhiman Saha 39, Jason Holder 26 not out, Manish Pandey 26; Yuzvendra Chahal 2-19, Isuru Udana 1-20, Washington Sundar 1-21, Navdeep Saini 1-30) by 5 wickets.

Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult help Mumbai Indians rout DC by 9 wickets to ensure top-2 finish

Defending champions Mumbai Indians took a step forward towards retaining their title when they ensured themselves the top-2 finish in the Dream11 Indian Premier League.

In a one-sided low-scoring outing, holders MI steamrolled Delhi Capitals by nine wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

With this ninth win in 13 games, MI consolidated their position at the top with 18 points to their credit which will seal their numero uno position in the points tally. The top two teams get one more chance in the playoffs to enter the final.

The 51st match of the season turned out to be one of the most lop-sided encounters. MI completely dominated their rivals by reaching the small target of 111 losing a solitary wicket with more than five overs to spare.

Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 72 after speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult grabbed a 3-wicket haul each.

In-form opening pair of Kishan and Quinton de Kock (26: 28 balls, 2×4) stitched a 68-run stand for the first wicket. DC pacer Anrich Nortje sent back de Kock in the 11th over which was the only success for DC bowlers.

Ishan continued his excellent batting thereafter and guided MI to victory with 34 balls to spare. The diminutive southpaw faced 47 balls and smashed eight boundaries and three huge sixes.

Another in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav remained undefeated on 12 off 11 balls. Kishan hits a six off the second ball of the 15th over to finish the things off in style.

Earlier MI won the toss and elected to field first. DC got off to a disastrous start and could never recover from the early setbacks. It was a below-par batting performance by DC batsmen against a quality bowling attack.

Except skipper Shreyas Iyer (25) and Rishabh Pant (21) none of the DC batsmen showed any patience to stay at the wicket. The wicket of Prithvi Shaw would definitely hurt the DC team management as he literally threw his wicket away after hitting two boundaries in the same over bowled by Boult.

Boult returned with the figures of 3 for 21, removing Shikhar Dhawan (0), Shaw (10) and Ravichandran Ashwin (12). Bumrah owned the Purple Cap after pocketing the wickets of Pant, Marcus Stoinis (2) and Harshal Patel (5). Nathan Coulter-Nile and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar settled with a wicket each.

With this win, MI improved the head-to-head record against DC by 14-12. Earlier this season on October 11 at Abu Dhabi, MI had downed DC by 5 wickets.

Brief scores

Delhi Capitals 110 for 9 in 20 overs (Shreyas Iyer 25, Rishabh Pant 21, Ravichandran Ashwin 12, Kagiso Rabada 12, Shimron Hetmyer 11, Prithvi Shaw 10; Jasprit Bumrah 3-17, Trent Boult 3-21, Nathan Coulter-Nile 1-14, Rahul Chahar 1-24) lost to Mumbai Indians 111 for 1 in 14.2 overs (Ishan Kishan 72, Quinton de Kock 26, Suryakumar Yadav 12; Anrich Nortje 1-25) by 9 wickets.

Free vaccine promise doesn’t violate poll code: EC

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s promise of providing free coronavirus vaccine in its manifesto for the Bihar assembly polls is not violative of the provisions of the model code, the Election Commission has held.

Responding to a complaint by Right to Information activist Saket Gokhale, the commission said it has found no violation of the provisions of the model code in the issue.

‘…no violation of any of the provisions of Model Code of Conduct has been observed…,’ the commission said.

Gokhale had claimed that the promise is discriminatory and a misuse of powers by the central government during elections.

According to sources, the commission cited certain guidelines for election manifestos contained in Part VIII of the Model Code of Conduct to conclude that the free vaccine promise was not violative of it.

‘The Directive Principles of State Policy enshrined in the Constitution enjoin upon the State to frame various welfare measures for the citizens and therefore there can be no objection to the promise of such welfare in election manifesto,’ one of the provisions quoted by the EC said.

Trust of voters should be sought only on those promises which are possible to be fulfilled, the other provision cited by the EC said.

‘It is stated that the election manifestos are issued by political parties, candidates in respect of a particular election,’ the EC response said.

Gokhale wrote on Twitter on Friday, ‘ECI shockingly ignored the fact that the Union government announced it for a specific state and said action is taken when election atmosphere is vitiated.’

Earlier this month, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had released the BJP manifesto for the Bihar assembly polls which promised free COVID-19 vaccine once it is cleared by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Opposition parties had slammed the BJP for promising free COVID-19 vaccines in its Bihar poll manifesto and demanded action by the Election Commission, while alleging that the ruling party was using the pandemic for political gains.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the BJP, saying one has to refer to the state-wise election schedule to know when one will have access to the vaccine.

The BJP, however, said health is a state subject and its manifesto is for Bihar, not for the entire country, where it has promised that the state will buy the vaccine for its people.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party and the National Conference all raised questions on the BJP’s poll promise of free vaccine for Bihar, alleging that it is politicising the matter.

MWRRA notice to NMC, Collector, VIDC over dangerous Ambazari Lake wall

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Taking serious view of the dangerous condition of retaining wall of Ambazari Lake, Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) has issued show cause notice to Municipal Commissioner, District Collector and Executive Director of Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC). The MWRRA has directed them to file affidavit in this regard till November 23.

The MWRRA has stated, “It appears prima facie that the health and lives of citizens of Nagpur city is at risk. Therefore, the Authority found it prudent to take cognisance and therefore order to call for further details.” It has asked the Municipal Commissioner, District Collector and Executive Director of VIDC, to show cause as to why MWRRA should not take suo motu cognisance of the matter. The notice has been issued with signature of Dr Ramnath Sonawane, Secretary of MWRRA. The matter is before the corum of Vinod J Tiwari, Member (Law), and Dr S T Sangle, Member (Economics), of MWRRA.

Pravin Mahajan, a researcher on issues relating to water, raised the issue of weakening of Ambazari Lake walls with MWRRA. He raised the issues vide letter dated October 12. In the letter, Mahajan pointed out that Ambazari Lake under the ownership of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is 150-year old and its earthen dam and spillway have become dilapidated. “The water is coming out from various cracks in the wall of the lake. If the Ambazari Lake bursts, it will affect about 10 lakh people and there will be a danger of submerging surrounding areas under 15-20 feet of water,” Mahajan stated.

Further, he said that the water of Ambazari Lake was not being used even during water scarcity. According to him, this has affected the environment. Against this backdrop, he sought directions to NMC to ensure safety as well as use of Ambazari Lake. Ambazari Lake with a submergence area of 200 hectares is the pride of Nagpur. The earthen dam is 930 metres in length, spillway is 140 metres, and the height of the lake is 11 metres. The lake with 14 km of catchment area always has water, Mahajan said. Commenting on MWRRA notice to the authorities, he said that it had raised hopes about the future of Ambazari Lake and also for removing the risk to Nagpur. He stressed upon the need for repairs. Besides, steps are needed to make Ambazari Lake water potable and to develop the lakeside into a tourist spot after carrying out strengthening works. Also, he said, encroachments on Nag river need to be removed.

Two brothers cheat doctor, many people of Rs 58 lakh in land deals

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Hudkeshwar police have booked two brothers for breach of trust and cheating a doctor and many other persons to the tune of Rs 58.50 lakh in dubious land deals.

The two accused siblings have been identified as Vinod Anantram Lanjewar (25) and Jitendra Anantram Lanjewar (30), both residents of Plot No. 27, Mahabhagwati Nagar, Chikhli Road.

The complainant, Kshitij Yuvraj Lange (39), who is doctor by profession, resident of Plot No. 33, Sheshnagar, told police that he had purchased a farm land at Mouza Kaldongri in 2016 for starting a nursing home. However, he did not get permission to open the nursing home at the said land. In the meanwhile, the two accused brothers, who were known to Dr. Lange, told him to carve plots on the land and sell them with double profit. Dr Lange accepted their scheme and negotiated an agreement in which the three will share 33 percent profit. The accused opened an office named Saikrupa Land Developers and Builders at Plot No. 34, Lavkush Nagar, Manewada Ring Road and also opened a joint account in ICICI Bank, Manewada Branch. Dr Lange authorised the two accused brothers to oversee money transactions. The two accused carved out a layout from Dr Lange’s land and sold plots to customers.

However, instead of depositing the money in the joint account of Saikrupa Land Developers and Builders, the two brothers usurped the money for their own use. The accused duo even avoided registry of the plots sold. When Dr Lange demanded his share of money, the accused threatened to kill him. The two accused brothers breached the trust and cheated the doctor and many other persons to the tune of Rs 58.56 lakh.

Hudkeshwar Assistant PSI Premshankar Shukla, based on Dr Lange’s complaint, booked the two accused brothers Vinod Lanjewar and Jitendra Lanjewar under Sections 406, 420, 465, 506(B), 34 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.

Nagpur Citizens Forum move to make city pothole-free

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: In a development that could give headache for concerned authorities, Nagpur Citizens Forum has launched a campaign to ensure a pothole-free road network in the city. The Forum has appealed to the citizens to click photos of bad roads and potholes in their area and send them on their helpline number 9730196885 with complete information of the said road.

The Nagpur Citizens Forum said the campaign is aimed at improving the condition of roads in the city by attracting attention of authorities. Roads in the city are maintained by Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department, National Highway Authority, however due to apathetic attitude, the condition of roads has deteriorated, said Prof Vikas Chedge of the Forum. Though Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) over the last few years have switched over to building cement roads but there seems to be no planning in the construction and as a result the roads pose more of troubles than offering any real solution. The increase in height of concrete roads resulted in flooding of houses as planners did not bother while planning these roads. At many places i-blocks are put in place but use of inferior quality material has rendered them useless, Chedge alleged.

The Forum said that in this year’s budget, NMC has set aside Rs 311crore for road construction and hopefully through citizens’ cooperation the funds can be used fruitfully to rid the city of potholes. The Forum would first appeal to authorities and city leaders to ensure they work upon their promises. However, in case that fails then they would put up a plaque with photos of potholes outside the offices of civic body, and PWD headquarters. The Nagpur Citizens Forum has warned to name the potholes in the city after MLAs, Corporators, people’s representatives and administration officials.

Lockdown in Nagpur extended till Nov end with no change

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The Covid-19 induced lockdown in Nagpur has been extended till the end of November aligning it with State Government declaration. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday issued a notification about extending the lockdown. No changes have been made in any of the directives for city specific by Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B who has adhered to the State line in continuing with easing of restrictions in the lockdown.

Since June the stringent lockdown restrictions are being relaxed in a calibrated manner to balance economic activities and to ensure there is no major spurt in COVID-19 infection. Though most of the sectors have been permitted to restart their activities, some grey areas still remain in directives from local authorities. There is no specific mention about permitting indoor sports activities and hence some confusion still remains about the same in the minds of those in the field.

Barring the mention about restarting the gym the phase-wise opening of lockdown under ‘Mission Begin Again’ had not touched on the indoor sports activities. In a broader way the outdoor sports activities were allowed since last one month providing breather to sportspersons who were finding it hard to remain fit.

The NMC notification said that all the activities that have so far been permitted by the State Government would continue to function as it is. At present the epidemic is under control as the number of persons testing positive has declined significantly. Also on positive note the fatalities due to COVID-19 infection too is in single digit.

However, authorities are still wary about the second wave and hence continuously advising people not to let down their guard. For civic officials the ensuing Diwali season and increasing crowds in city markets is giving jitters. Since infection spread has reduced people are taking quite a liberty and even risking moving without a mask. Though people might have shed their inhibitions and moved about in a carefree manner it may complicate the matters in the immediate future as concerns about a second wave of infection have arisen in other parts of the country.

बिजली बिगाड़ पर उपाय योजना करने बिजली कंपनियों पर ऊर्जा विभाग ने जारी किया आदेश

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur Police hunting absconding Roshan Sheikh gang members – Ankit Pali, Abhishek Singh

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The city police have launched a manhunt for Roshan Sheikh gang members — Ankit Rajkumar Pali and Abhishek Aashutosh Singh — booked for allegedly kidnapping a Dharampeth based man and his son and demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion. The special court on October 14 had summoned the duo to present before the court till October 28. However, the accused duo never attended the hearing. Following which Nagpur cops launched a hunt for Pali and Singh and urged citizens to convey any sort of information in this regard to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sudhir Nandanwar.

According to police, Sheikh and his gang members, including Pali, a resident of Flat No. 8, Sadgurushan Co-op Society, behind Friends Colony and Singh, a resident of Aditya Heritage Apartment, Chaoni, Sadar were threatening complainant Gaurav Dilip Dani (38), a resident of G-4, Shiv Gaurav Estate for extortion of Rs 20 lakh.

Dani had given an advertisement in the newspaper for renting out his commercial shop situated in Sadar area. Since then, Sheikh and his accomplices Pali and Singh came in contact with him. Sheikh was eyeing the properties of Dani. The accused had kidnapped Dani and his son on May 2, 2019 and bundled them in a car. Threatening Dani for his life, the accused demanded Rs 20 lakh as extortion. Fearing for life, Dani had promised him of paying the amount. Soon after, the accused had collected around Rs five lakh from the victim in a year. A case under Sections 363, 364 (a), 384, 386, 387, 397, 504, 506 of Indian Penal Code was registered against Sheikh and his gang members.

Then Nagpur Police Chief, Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay had invoked Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang on the basis of a proposal made by PI Anil Taksande under the guidance of DCP Detection Gajanan Rajmane.

Properties red flagged by DGCA: Buyers in dilemma as officials not disclosing list of violators

Nagpur: “Buy land, they’re not making it anymore” – Mark Twain, writer and humorist

An investment ensures one’s long-term financial security. The money generated from your investments often provides financial security and steady income. With the same motive, investing in the properties has become the key way to ensure one’s financial security – which is picked by many. However, imagine you’ve invested in a property, trusting the builder; only to know that the construction was unauthorized!

The latter scenario could become a horrifying nightmare, if you’re planning to invest your hard earned money in the properties around the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), as citing release of list of builders accused of violating Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) norms might create panic among people, officials have refused to share details of ‘unauthorised’ high-rise buildings around Nagpur Airport. However, the move seems to show concern more for builders instead of new buyers, whose money will be stalled if things went terribly wrong.

Nagpur Today had flashed a report cautioning the prospective investors planning to invest their hard earned money in the properties around MIHAN — an ambitious airport project promising the biggest economical development currently underway in India in terms of investments – to think twice! The properties located around Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport and MIHAN area are under the scanner of DGCA for various irregularities.

The officials whose duty is to safeguard the interest of common people are not disclosing the names of the builders accused of violating the norms on the pretext of avoiding panic among citizens. However, those who have already invested their hard earned money and are blocked due to sheer greed of the builders are grappling with the crises. The move of avoiding names of structures could invite more investors to fall prey in the dubious investments.

It is pertinent to mention that in the survey of MIHAN India Limited (MIL), it was found that around 30 high-rise buildings so far have violated the rules of DGCA. These buildings have now emerged as the biggest threat to the growth of the airport. The builders promising luxurious flats and lavishing properties around this area are often found violating the norms set by DGCA to make hefty money at the cost of customers. Any dealing in the dubious properties could take a heavy toll on your investments.

Survey wants Ganga Jamuna (Red Light) area banished in Nagpur City

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: A survey conducted under “Ban Ganga Jamuna Abhiyan” in Gandhibagh area has revealed that 90 percent of local residents want the Red Light area to be banished from the city. “We don’t want Ganga Jamuna anywhere in Nagpur city,” said the survey. The survey sought the opinion of local residents on the issue. 69 percent men and 31 percent women participated in the survey and opened their minds. 53 percent surveyed people were local residents of Gandhibagh, 28 percent traders and 19 percent people were from other areas. The survey was aimed at curbing prostitution network, immoral trafficking and crimes connected with the dubious business at other places in the city.

The survey was conducted under the supervision of social activist Sunil Gotefode.

According to statistics released recently by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Nagpur ranked seventh in the country on the issue of atrocities on women. The NCRB report also said that the incidents of murders and kidnapping have increased in Nagpur by 25 percent and 7.6 percent respectively. The spurt in crimes in Nagpur city is worrisome. In the police actions in the recent past, it came to the fore that Ganga Jamuna could be connected to various crimes such as boom in sex rackets, drug consumption, drug peddling, and other related crimes. The survey says the red light area has a combination of factors that can create a major hotspot, which, in turn, could cause the infectious diseases to spread among a large population. Hence the survey was conducted to know the actual facts.

For the sake of authenticity and flawless result, the survey included 69 percent people residing in the area for more than 15 years, 28 percent people staying between 10 and 15 years and 3 percent people residing between 5 and 10 years in the area. Some people connected with Ganga Jamuna Basti were also included in the survey.

The survey facts:

· During the survey, 100 percent people felt bad effects on families due to adjacent Ganga Jamuna Basti. Womenfolk always feared for their safety and security. The Red Light area could be one of the reasons for spurt in crimes in Nagpur city, they opined.

· 90 percent people attributed Ganga Jamuna for incidents of eve teasing, molestation, vulgar comments, indecent behaviour in the area particularly in the evening hours.

· 88 percent residents opined that drug trafficking takes place in the Basti and youngsters are falling victims to drug addiction.

· 85 percent of people said that clashes and attacks occur due to drug consumption and women are abused and maltreated.

·50 percent of people saw an increase in heinous crimes such as rapes due to Basti.

· 80 percent of people attributed the increase in murders, assaults, burglaries and other crimes due to this Red Light area.

The social activist Sunil Gotefode said that the demands to curb flesh trade in the Ganga Jamuna area are being raised since the past many years. But due to interference by some ‘white-collared’ people, the ‘Ban Ganga Jamuna Abhiyan’ was scuttled. On the other hand, the courts allowed women to reside in Ganga Jamuna area but curbed prostitution. But still, flesh trade is being carried out with impunity in the area. This is leading to an increase in crimes in Nagpur city.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News
